Tar sands petition

Between September 2010 and March 2011 we campaigned to ‘Keep tar sands out of Europe’ as part of new EU climate change legislation.

The Co-operative, WWF-UK, Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth Europe collected over 20,000 petition signatories. The petition was delivered to the EU Parliament in March 2011. In response a debate was held in Parliament and the Commission said tar sands would be included in their draft proposals going forwards. This is fantastic progress and thanks to you tar sands may be effectively banned by the end of the year.

Stand up and be counted.

Climate change isn't inevitable. We have the know-how to get ourselves out of a difficult situation. We don’t need to import tar sands fuel or to exploit other unconventional fossil fuels such as shale gas.

We have the resources to provide clean renewable energy while creating thousands of jobs. But the Government must accelerate their development to secure the benefits and avoid dangerous climate change.

Our new petition asks the UK Government to invest in clean renewable energy. Join The Co-operative, WWF-UK and Greenpeace’s petition:
